There are times when life seems to move easily.
Things come together. Energy feels available. We feel inspired, connected, and perhaps even certain about where we are going.
And then there are other times.
Things slow down. Plans change. Energy turns inward. We may feel uncertain, tired, or as though we are waiting for something we cannot quite name.
This month, I pulled Ebb and Flow from my Serenity Whispers Oracle Deck, and its message felt especially appropriate for August.

August has always seemed to me like a month that lives between two worlds. Summer is still very much here, yet there are subtle signs that another season is approaching. The light begins to shift. Routines start changing. We may find ourselves thinking about what is ending and what is beginning.
Nature reminds us that nothing remains in one state forever.
Neither do we.
We Are Not Meant to Be Constant
Sometimes we expect ourselves to operate at the same pace every day.
We want the same amount of energy, motivation, creativity, patience, and productivity regardless of what is happening around us or within us.
But nature doesn’t work that way.
The tide comes in and goes out.
The moon waxes and wanes.
Plants grow, flower, release, and rest.
There are seasons of activity and seasons of quiet.
Our lives have rhythms too.
There may be times for doing and times for receiving. Times for speaking and times for listening. Times for moving forward and times when the wisest thing we can do is remain still long enough to notice what is changing.
The invitation of Ebb and Flow is not to resist those rhythms.
It is to listen to them.
What Is Life Asking of You Right Now?
When things slow down, our first instinct can be to push harder.
We may assume that something has gone wrong simply because we aren’t moving at the pace we think we should be.
But a quieter season isn’t necessarily an empty one.
Sometimes the ebb is where integration happens.
It can be where we recover, reconsider, listen, heal, or allow a new direction to emerge.
And the flow has its own invitation.
When energy returns, when inspiration appears, when opportunities begin opening, can we allow ourselves to move with that energy rather than questioning whether we are ready?
Both are part of the same rhythm.
Neither needs to last forever.
A Simple Ebb and Flow Practice
Sometime this week, give yourself a few quiet minutes.
Sit comfortably and allow your attention to settle on your breathing.
There is no need to change the breath.
Simply notice.
The breath itself contains an ebb and flow.
The inhale arrives.
The exhale releases.
There is receiving.
There is letting go.
You might quietly ask yourself:
Where am I being invited to move forward?
Where might I need to soften or rest?
What am I trying to force that may need a little more space?
You don’t have to find an immediate answer.
Simply notice what arises.
Sometimes awareness is enough.
Moving With the Rhythm
Perhaps the practice this month isn’t about accomplishing more.
Maybe it is about becoming a little more attentive to your own rhythm.
There may be days when you need movement, creativity, connection, and action.
There may be other days when what you need most is quiet, a cup of tea, a favorite aroma, meditation, time outdoors, or simply a few minutes without having to accomplish anything.
Both can be self-care.
Both belong.
And perhaps that is the gentle wisdom of Ebb and Flow:
We don’t have to hold ourselves in one place.
We can allow life to move.
We can allow ourselves to change with it.
And when the next wave comes, we can meet it from a place that is a little more rested, aware, and present.
About the Card
Ebb and Flow comes from my Serenity Whispers Oracle Deck, created as a gentle tool for reflection, encouragement, and connecting with your own inner wisdom.
I think this would pair especially well with the other August article because the two posts quietly complement each other:
Quick Fix to Ritual → How do I care for myself?
Ebb and Flow → Can I listen to what kind of care I need right now?
